Switzerland into Italy

We checked out of Saas Fee and headed up to Mattmark Damin Saas Almagell.

The water was very low. Despite the tap seemingly turned fully on in the photo below. Sent the drone up for a few shots.

We them headed over the Simplon Pass, it looked familiar. Our end destination for the day was Stresa on the Maggiore lake.

While having this coffee having ridden over the Simplon pass a Japanese Beatle fell off Rob’s T-Shirt onto the table. Determined little fellow if he hung on all the way from Switzerland.

Our digs for the night at was at Villa Isabella. This place is stunning with a massive balcony and view of the lake.

We enjoyed our tea outdoors in a cozy little alley. Rob indulged in lasagne accompanied by a glass of Leffe Rosso, while Deb savored a risotto paired with a glass of Barola. It was quite delightful to dine outdoors, as everyone who passed by couldn’t resist the temptation to catch a glimpse of our culinary creations.

Stuffed as much ‘free’ breakfast down our throats as we could and then set off too, you’ve guessed it, ride some more cable cars. 

We started with Hannig in Saas-Fee which is 2336m by cable car. Rob was gutted to find out the gravity buggies did not open for the season until the next day so they decided to go ride the toboggan instead.

Then we jumped on the Postal bus (also included in your stay) and headed off to the neighbouring town of Saas-Grund. Guess what? Yep, we found another free cable car. This one was to Hohsaas, and although not the highest at 3200m it was definitely the longest.



We literally had 3 minutes at the top because the cable car was about to stop

Marmots and mountains

We got up at about 9 (well we are on holiday), had breakfast and marched off to see what our newly acquired Saastalcard would get us for free. These are handed out if you are staying at one of the local hotels and entitle you to unlimited free cable card rides and postal bus trips. Free? We like the sound of that especially as two burgers will cost you £50 in Saas-Fee (we kid you not).

We decided to spend the day riding cable cars up to the various peaks and glaciers. While we were at the tourist information we also noticed they were selling Marmot food, basically bags of  shelled peanuts, interesting 🤔.

Always thought the T60 was the Rolls-Royce of snow blowers
